DC Pirates Baseball begin the 2024 Season with a 3-0 record

The Drew Central Pirates have begun the 2024 Season with a perfect 3-0 record and are tied for first place in the 8-3A Conference with DeWitt. 

Both teams are 3-0 in conference play.

The Pirates began the season on March 7 with a 2-0 win over Camden Harmony Grove.

Neither team could get much going at the plate with Drew Central recording two hits in the contest with Drew Burton and Jase Watt combining to hold the Hornets to one hit. 

Burton would pitch six innings with 11 strikeouts with Watt throwing one, recording two strikeouts. 

The only runs in the contest would come in the bottom of the third inning when Burton and Wyatt crossed the plate.

Wood scored on an error after Burton reached first on the same error. Burton would score on a double by Watt to give the Pirates the 2-0 win.

The Pirates returned on March 11 for a conference contest hosting Smackover.

The Buckaroos and Pirates were tied 4-4 after four innings of play with Smackover getting runs in the first, third, and fourth innings and the Pirates getting a run in the bottom of the first and three runs in the third.

Drew Central would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with two runs to take the 6-4 win.

Burton and Watt would combine for seven strikeouts in the contest.

The Pirates would travel to Dumas for their final contest before Spring Break in a 15-0 run-rule victory.

The Pirates got on the board first in the top of the second on a Grand Slam by Burton and a single by Jordan Jones that scored two runs to give the Pirates a 6-0 lead.

The Pirates would score four more runs in the top of the third and five runs in the top of the fourth for the 15-0 victory. 

The Pirates would get home runs from Burton and Hunter Griffin.

Griffin would pitch the complete four inning contest, allowing no hits, striking out eight and walking four. 

The Pirates will return after Spring Break to host Fordyce on Monday, March 25, at 5 pm.
