Lady Pirates drop first conference game to DeWitt at home

The Drew Central Lady Pirates dropped their first conference contest on Tuesday evening, hosting the DeWitt Lady Dragons in 8-3A Conference play.

The Lady Pirates had lost their previous contest back on Thursday, March 28, in a non conference contest against the Rison Lady Wildcats for their first loss of the 2024 season.

Against Rison, the Lady Pirates would give up a run in the first three innings to fall behind 3-0, but would get a run back in the bottom of the third after Caroline McRae singled to score Bailey Chapman.

Rison came back to score four runs in the top of the fourth inning to increase the lead to 7-1.

After a scoreless bottom half of the inning the Lady Wildcats would add three in the top of the fifth and one in the top of the sixth for 11-1 lead.

Drew Central added two runs in the bottom of the sixth after a lead off triple by Amari Lucas followed by a single by Emma McRae to score Lucas.

McKinzie McCraw would enter as a courtesy runner for Emma McRae and would steal second and advance to third on a single by Kynnlee Graves. 

McCaw would score the final run for the Lady Pirates on a passed ball.

Rison added two runs in the top of the seventh to claim the 13-3 win.

Returning back to conference play on Tuesday, the Lady Pirates and Lady Dragons were tied for the top spot in the conference entering the contest with each having a 3-0 conference record.

Emma McRae would start the contest in the circle for the Lady Pirates and would get the first three Lady Dragon batters out on a ground out and two fly outs.

The Lady Pirates would get on the board in the bottom of the first inning.

Bailey Chapman led off being hit by a pitch and would steal second. 

After the first out of the inning Graves would be thrown out at first on a dropped ball strikeout, but the throw would allow Chapman to score.

After a scoreless second inning, the Lady Dragons would take the lead in the contest in the top of the third inning. 

Dewitt would take advantage of three walks and a three run home run to take a 4-1 lead.

Another big inning for DeWitt in the top of the fifth inning, scoring eight runs in the inning to take a 12-1 lead.

The Lady Pirates would need to score at least two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to keep the contest from ending by run rule.

Adyson Kulbeth and Peyton Withers would lead off the inning with singles.

Kulbeth would be thrown out attempting to steal third base with Peyton Withers advancing to second and then to third on a wild pitch. 

Presley Withers grounded out but got the RBI with Peyton Withers scoring on the play.

DeWitt would get the final strikeout of the contest to take to 12-2 win.

The Lady Pirates fall to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in conference.

Drew Central hosts Crossett on Monday at 5 pm.
