Mary Kathryne Crook Burton, 83, of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at her home. She was born June 23, 1941, in Monticello to the late Dan Wright Cook and Alice Kathryne Neidringhaus Crook.
She was the widow of William Kenneth Burton, a retired school teacher and a member of Rose Hill Free Will Baptist Church. Kathryne was a 1959 honor graduate of Drew Central High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, a class officer, member of FHA, the annual staff, along with many other clubs. She also was a member of the Drew Central basketball team for four years. She attended Arkansas A&M University (now UAM) where she graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science and Education degree in English and Math. Kathryne was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she participated in various community projects. She was also a proud member of the Col. David Love, Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter (DAR) where she served as Regent from 2010-2012.
She loved horses, barrel racing, and ''running off'' on her horse as a teenager. Kathryne loved to talk and socialize and never met a stranger. She also loved genealogy and antique cars where she enjoyed going on trips and car shows with her husband and friends. However, the greatest love of her life was her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. They were truly the light of her life! In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Scott Brian Burton.
