Pirates, Lady Pirates pick up conference wins over Dumas

The Drew Central Pirates and Lady Pirates picked up 8-3A Conference wins on Tuesday night over Dumas.

For the Lady Pirates, the win over Dumas would be the team's second conference win in a row.

Beginning a string of conference contests on April 12, travelling to Harmony Grove, the Lady Pirates would fall behind 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning but Harmony Grove would add runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to extend their lead to 10-1.

The Lady Pirates would score four runs in the top of the seventh but would fall in the contest 10-5.

The Lady Pirates would travel to Smackover on Monday, April 15, to face the Smackover Lady Buckaroos who are currently ranked second in the conference.

Smackover would get on the board first in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.

Drew Central would tie the contest in the top of the fourth inning after Emma McRae connected on a solo home run, it was McRae’s second home run in consecutive contests. 

Smackover scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to retake the lead, 2-1, but Drew Central would get four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead.

Smackover would get one more run in the contest with the Lady Pirates taking the 5-3 win. 

The Lady Pirates would pick up their second conference win of the week with a 14-4 win over Dumas.

With the two conference wins, the Lady Pirates are currently ranked third in conference with a 5-3 record. 

The Lady Pirates will travel to McGehee on April 19 to face the Lady Owls at 4:30 pm.

For the Drew Central Pirates, the team would snap a two game skid with a win over Dumas.

The Pirates would travel to Smackover on April 5 to face the Buckaroos.

The Pirates would fall behind 5-0 after the first two innings but would get a run back in the fourth inning.

Drew Burton would cut the lead to 6-3 after a two run home run in the top of the fifth inning but the Pirates would drop the contest 11-3.

Travelling to Harmony Grove on Thursday, April 11, the Pirates would get on the board first with two runs in the top of the first, but Harmony Grove would score five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 lead.

Harmony Grove added a run in the bottom of the third and another in the bottom of the fourth innings for a 7-2 lead.

Drew Central scored runs in the sixth and three in the seventh but would fall short 9-6.

Returning home on April 16, the Pirates would jump on the Dumas Bobcats early, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning and getting eight runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 14-0 lead.

The Pirates would get the final run of the contest in the bottom of the third inning to complete the 15 run rule victory. 

Wyatt Wood would complete all three innings on the mound allowing one hit  and walking two in the 15-0 win.

The Pirates improved to 5-3 in conference play and will return to conference action on Friday, April 19, hosting the McGehee owls at 4:30 pm.
