Robert Andrew Langley, born June 29, 1929, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Born and raised in Dalark, he lived the last 60 years in Monticello where he first taught economics and later was library circulation manager at what is now the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Robert also worked many years as night assistant manager at Piggly Wiggly. In addition to his ''day jobs'', he also served as a volunteer fireman for the city of Monticello.
Preceded in death by his parents, Donald J. and Mary N. Langley, sister Mary Langley Smith, and grandsons John Lloyd and Kirk Ruth, he is survived by his wife, Ruth Shelton Langley, sons Russell and David (Barbara) Langley, daughter Julie (Tommy) Smith, grandchildren Andrea (Daniel) Warren, Braden (Paige) Smith, Laura (Blake) Hockaday, Autumn and Rubin Langley, four great-grandchildren, and one special caregiver, Tywana Wilson.
Robert was a life-long member of the Methodist faith including the last 60 years at First United Methodist Church of Monticello where he served on many committees and the doors were rarely opened without his presence. He was a long time member of the Lions Club of Monticello, a Gideon, and a Korean War Veteran.
More than anything, Robert loved people. He loved working with students and the public and after retirement could be found with his coffee group or lunch bunch at church or visiting with his breakfast buddies at Huddle House. In the last year, the aides, nurses, staff and residents of the Woods became his second family. Robert had an infectious laugh and enjoyed life to the fullest no matter the circumstances.
The family wishes to thank all the people that have helped take care of ''Papa'' or ''The Professor'' over the last many years including Dr. Michael Fakouri, the staff at Drew Memorial, Southeast Arkansas Rehab, Belleview Estates, The Woods, and many others.
