Smackover Buckaroos hand Pirates third loss of the season

The Drew Central Pirates returned to Mike Pennington Stadium on Friday night for their final non conference game of the season, hosting the Smackover Buckaroos who came into the contest ranked as the third best team in all of Class 3A.

Smackover would win the coin toss and would elect to defer to the second half. 

Drew Central would start their drive at their own 44.

Kabrien Collins would get the first hand off for the Pirates for a two-yard gain.

The Pirates would turn the ball over on downs on the drive but would force Smackover to punt on their first possession.

Beginning their second drive at their own 48, the Pirates would make their way downfield on runs by Collin, Cam Sanders, and two completed passes from Chase Knowles to Ashton Govan and JT Turnage.

The Pirates would reach the Smackover six with Knowles keeping the ball, driving through the Smackover line for the Pirate touchdown.

The extra point was not successful as the Pirates took a 6-0 lead.

The Pirate defense would continue to get to the Smackover offense, forcing a fumble on the next possession with Bernard Pitts coming away with the ball.

Smackover would get on the board with 8:46 remaining in the half with a touchdown and two-point conversion.

Smackover would put two more touchdowns on the board before the end of the half to take a 21-6 lead into the halftime break.

Smackover would receive the ball to begin the second half and would put their fourth consecutive score on the board to increase the lead to 28-6.

Smackover added two more scores to force the “Sportsmanship Rule” with a 41-6 lead.

Drew Central would get a final touchdown in the contest with 38 seconds remaining in the third quarter on a five yard run by Collins and a two-point conversion by Cyrus Remley.

Drew Central wiil travel to McGehee on Friday to take on the Owls at 7 pm.
