Southern Nazarene takes two of three from Blossoms at home

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Blossoms Softball team hosted the Southern Nazarene University Crimson Storm this past weekend in a Great American Conference three-game series at Alvy Early Softball Field.

Playing a double-header on Saturday, March 23, the Blossoms would send Mallory Pitre to the circle to start Game One. 

Neither team would produce any runs for the first two innings of the contest.

In the top of the third, Southern Nazarene would get a two RBI single, another two RBI on a home run, and an RBI triple to give the Crimson Storm a 5-0 lead.

It would be the only runs scored in the contest as both teams would be held scoreless for the next four innings. 

The Blossoms would record two hits in the contest with Kennedy Cox going 1 for 3 and Courtnee Sensibaugh going 1 for 2. 

Pitre would pitch four innings allowing five runs on four hits with three runs being earned, and striking out three.

Pitre fell to 6-6 on the season. 

Kayla Olthouse would come into the game in relief, pitching three innings allowing two hits, striking out one, and walking one.

Returning for the second contest of the day, the Blossoms would turn to Sam Stephens for the start in the circle.

UAM would get on the eboard first in the bottom of the first inning after Lexie Smith reached first on an error allowing Adrianna Erichsen to score on the same error. 

Southern Nazarene would get the run back in the top of the third on an error at short to tie the contest 1-1.

The Blossoms would retake the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Sensibaugh hit a sacrifice foul to left field that scored Bailey Camp to give UAM a 2-1 lead. 

The Crimson Storm would retake the lead in the top of the sixth inning after a double scored two runs to give Southern Nazarene the 3-2 lead. 

In the bottom half of the inning, Bailey Camp singled to left field to score Kayla Rischardson to tie the contest at three.

The score would remain tied until the top of the eighth inning when Southern Nazarene would get a single run to take a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Bailey Camp singled to left field to score Lexie Smith to tie the contest at four. 

With two outs, Camp at second and Jadyn Hart at third, Courtnee Sensibaugh connected on a walk-off single to score Hart to give the Blossoms the 5-4 victory. 

UAM recorded 10 hits in the contest with Lexie Smith going 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, Bailey Camp going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run scored with a walk, and Courtnee Sensibaugh going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

Adrianna Erichsen was 1 for 3 with a run scored with Kennedy Cox, Kammie Walker, and Ronnie Johnson going 1 for 2.

Sam Stephens pitched five innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out three.

Kyann Woods would get the decision in the contest to improve to 4-4 on the season, pitching three innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out three and walking one.

Returning on Sunday for the final game of the three game series, the Blossoms and Crimson Storm would remain scoreless for two innings before Southern Nazarene would get a run in top of the third inning.

The Crimson Storm would get two more runs in the contest, getting one in the top of the fourth and one in the top of the sixth for a 3-0 victory and the series win.

UAM recorded seven hits in the contest Ronnie Johnson going 2 for 3 with Courtnee Sensibaugh, Bailey Camp, and Kennedy Cox going 1 for 3.

Adrianna Erichsen was 1 for 4 and Lexie Smith went 1 for 2.

Sam Stephens would pitch for 1.1 innings allowing three hits and striking out two. 

Mallory Pitre would record the loss falling to 6-7 on the season, allowing three runs (two earned), striking out three and walking two. 

Kyann Woods would pitch .2 innings, striking out one.

The Blossoms fall to 14-19 overall on the season and to 6-11 in Great American Conference play.

The Blossoms return to action at Alvin Early Field facing the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns on Thursday, March 28 at 2 pm, followed by a double-header on Friday, March 29, with Game One beginning at 12 pm followed by Game Two set to begin around 2 pm.
