The Drew Central Pirates would host the Star City Bulldogs on Friday, September 11, with Drew Central hosting a tailgate party before the game honoring Military members and First Responders.
Pirate fans would hear pregame words from head coach Joe Spatafora before the team went back to make last minute preparations before gametime.
National Guard members would present colors for the National Anthem before Pafford Air One made an entrance, landing at mid-field to present the game ball to the officials and the ceremonial coin toss by First Responders.
Star City would receive the ball to start the contest, but it was Drew Central that would get on the scoreboard first after a 71-yard touchdown run by EJ Lucas and an extra point by Aiden Dickey gave the Pirates a 7-0 lead with 6:27 remaining in the first quarter.
Star City would cut the lead to 7-6 but the Pirates would take a 14-6 lead before half on a one-yard score by Cyrus Remley and extra point by Dickey.
The Pirates would turn the ball over to start the second half with Star City getting the next two touchdowns and a safety to go up 24-14.
The Pirates would cut the Bulldog lead to 24-22 after a nine-yard run by Alex Pitts for a touchdown and two-point conversion by Ashton Govan.
Star City would get the next two touchdowns to go up 39-22 with the Pirates scoring on a nine yard pass from Chase Knowles to Govan to put the score at 39-28 with 3:19 remaining in the contest.
The Pirates would recover an onside kick but would be forced to punt with 1:19 left in the contest to set up the final with the Bulldogs sealing the contest 39-28.
The Pirates will host the Smackover Buckaroos on Friday night at 7 pm at Mike Pennington Stadium.
Smackover comes into the contest 2-0 and is ranked in the top three in the 3A Conference.
