Weevils fall in eighth consecutive contest with loss to Southern Arkansas

With the last win for the Weevils coming back on December 13 in the “Billie Ballgame” against Langston University, the Weevils have lost eight consecutive Great American Conference contests dating back to a home loss to Ouachita Baptist on December 17.

After dropping two games on their first road trip to Oklahoma against Southwestern and Northwestern Oklahoma State Universities, the Weevils would return to Steelman Fieldhouse to drop contests to Southeastern Oklahoma State University, 83-55, and to East Central University, 66-59.

Playing in their third home contest on January 19, the Weevils would lead the Wonder Boys 27-15 at the half and would lead Arkansas Tech until five seconds remaining in the contest when the Wonder Boys connected on a pair of free throws to take a 49-48 win.

Taking to the road to face Henderson State, the Weevils would find themselves on the wrong end of their second one-point loss after trailing for the majority of the contest, UAM would take the lead in the second half, but would lose the lead with 19 seconds remaining allowing Henderson to take the 66-65 win.

Returning home on Monday, January 23, hosting Southern Arkansas University.

UAM and SAU exchanged the lead several times during the first half with the Weevils taking a one-point, 26-25, lead on a layup with five seconds on the clock by Cole Anderson. 

The Weevils and Muleriders continued to go back and forth in the second half until the Muleriders took the lead for the final time in the contest with six seconds remaining. 

SAU would finish the contest on the free throw line, connecting on two shots to take a four-point, 65-61 win handing the Weevils their eight consecutive defeat. 

With the loss the Weevils are now 5-12 overall and 1-10 in GAC play.

UAM will take to the road for their second trip to Oklahoma to face Southern Nazarene on Thursday, January 26, in Bethany, Oklahoma, following with a stop in Shawnee, Oklahoma, facing Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday, January 27.
