Weevils take home series against Oklahoma Baptist University

The University of Arkansas at Monticello maintained their second place standing in the Great American Conference after a home series win over Oklahoma Baptist University.

Playing in a double-header on Sunday, March 17, Connor Irvine would pick up his fourth win of the season with Kyle Roop earning his third save of the season.

Oklahoma Baptist would get on the board in the top of the first inning on a three-run home run and an RBI single to take an early 4-0 lead.

UAM would get three runs back in the bottom of the second inning after Will Owens singled to score Brodie Romero, Camden Tanner was hit by a pitch that scored Chase Cripps and a walk to Cade Cancilla scored Chaz Poppy.

Romero would double in the fourth to score Poppy to tie the game at 4 with UAM sealing the contest on a two-run home run by Garrett to give the Weevils the 6-5 win to begin the series.

In Game Two, Oklahoma Baptist would get two runs in the top of the first inning on a double.

The Weevils were able to get the runs back in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run home run by Camden Tanner that scored Kirk Wolfe for the 2-2 tie.

UAM would take the lead in the bottom of the second inning after a single by Cade Cancilla scored Chase Cripps for a 3-2 lead.

Oklahoma Baptist tied the contest 3-3 on a sole home run to right centerfield in the top of the fourth inning.

After a scoreless bottom half of the fourth inning, Oklahoma Baptist would take the lead after a run scored after an out at first base to give the Bison a 5-4 lead.

Neither team would cross home plate for the remainder of the contest with Oklahoma Baptist taking the Game Two victory. 

Maxin Mrakovcic would take the loss for the Weevils, allowing  four runs on six hits while striking out six.

Returning on Monday for the final game of the series, the Weevils would get the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning after Kirk Wolfe connected for a Grand Slam for a 4-0 lead.

UAM would get a run in the bottom of the third on a Cancilla single and one run in the bottom of the seventh before exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the eighth for the 13-3 series win.

Charles Peacock picked up the win, improving his record to 3-3 on the season with Nelson Mercado picking up his fifth save of the season. 

Kirk Wolf picked up his sixth home run on the season and his 26th RBI. Both stats lead the team. 

The Weevils tral to Bethany. Oklahoma this weekend for a series against Southern Nazarene.
